Crete
Crete is the southernmost part of Europe. It is a big island where fertile land changes to typical Mediterranean dry areas, valleys to high towering mountains, spacious beaches to seclusive bays.

The whole island is steeped in history, being the birthplace of the ancient god, Zeus. This is where one of the oldest civilizations of Europe, the Minoan civilization, flourished over 2500 years ago. Archeological sites of importance are scattered all over the island with the more important one being the Knossos Palace in Heraklion, the biggest city in the island. This is where the mythical Minotaur lived in the Maize designed by the famous ancient architect Daedalus. In the Heraklion Museum you can also find some of the most amazing artefacts of the Minoan era.
There are two airports on the island with the main one being the Nikolaos Kazantzakis airport in Heraklion. There are direct flights from all major UK airports and the flight takes approximately 4 hours.
